Smoky Greenwell, a seasoned harmonica and saxophone player, has become a fixture in the vibrant New Orleans music scene since arriving in 1989. After honing his skills and working as a sessions player at Sun Studios and later collaborating with Allman Brothers guitarist Warren Haynes in Blues Co-Op, Smoky found his musical home in the Crescent City. Here, he has shared the stage with a who's who of New Orleans legends across blues, jazz, Zydeco, and funk, including Snooks Eaglin, Eddie Bo, and George Porter Jr., as well as stepping in as the harmonica player for the iconic band WAR. For over two decades, The Smoky Greenwell Band has held weekly performances in New Orleans, cultivating a dedicated local following. Beyond his own band, Smoky actively contributes to the city's musical landscape by producing and hosting blues events, notably the annual Harmonica Extravaganza during Jazz Fest. His deep understanding of the blues harmonica even led to him receiving the prestigious 2017 "Spirit of Little Walter Award," solidifying his place as a respected figure in the genre.
